33 Life Lessons I Learned in 33 Years

Share

life lessons pictureImportant life lessons come with every milestone, obstacle and accomplishment. Believe me when I say that I’ve had my fair share of them.

What I’m sharing with you today is one life lesson that I’ve learned for every year of my life. That’s a whopping total of 33. I hope you enjoy them.

1. Without life’s struggles, there are no life lessons.
2. A woman thinks she knows what love is until she gives birth to a little person who completely expands and redefines her definition.
3. Arguments result in both people feeling the same way (or worse than) they did when it started. Communication results in awareness, empathy and understanding.
4. The most important person for you to be good to is you. It is only when you learn to be good to yourself that you become a better person for everyone around you.
5. Perfectionism is an example of human imperfection. To err is natural, to beat yourself up for it is insane.
6. Value friendship. A true friend is one of the most precious gifts you’ll ever have.
7. Though some call it the coward’s way out, walking away is often the most daring and courageous thing you can do.
8. If you love someone, tell them. You never know when they will no longer be there to hear you say it.
9. We don’t all speak the same love language.
10. “No.” is a complete sentence.
11. Just because a person tells you their problem, doesn’t mean they’re asking you to solve it. A shoulder to cry on and a listening ear are often more than enough.
12. Hurt people, hurt people. Everyone benefits when we reach out to soothe each other’s pain.
13. Differences are what make the world a beautiful place. Our reactions to those differences are what bring the gloom and doom.

14. Normal is a setting on the washing machine. There are no people that can truly be defined by this word.
15. Depression is not a sad mood. It’s a disease that may afflict even the happiest person in the world—including me. It’s also defeatable.
16. Happiness is a choice you get to make at every moment of your life.
17. The joy of giving to another is the best gift in the world.
18. Nobody has a patent on God. Everyone has a right to their own beliefs and their own relationships with that which we call God.
19. You don’t have to be perfect to be just right.
20. Most of what we rely on are things we could truly do without.
21. You don’t have to search for love. You are love manifested.
22. Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words can cut so much deeper.
23. It doesn’t feel like it at the time, but a broken heart will heal.
24. Worrying never changes anything except the health of the worrier.
25. You can never take too many pictures.
26. Experience is a great teacher. A mistake is even greater.
27. Grudges only hurt the holder. You can love yourself enough to let go.
28. It’s never too late to follow your dreams.
29. There’s more value in teaching your child how to think than in teaching him what to think.
30. You can’t change the past, but you can make the future brighter by appreciating the here and now.
31. It is okay to ask for help. Everybody needs somebody sometimes.
32. The things that make life so beautiful don’t come with a price tag.
33. Growing up continues long after you’re considered a grown up.

So there you have it…my little list of life lessons. I’d love to know what you think. What important life lessons stand out for you? Your comments are appreciated.
